Dr. Amarda Shehu, Inaugural Vice President & Chief AI Officer
George Mason University

Professor Shehu is the architect of Mason's institution-wide AI strategy. She drives comprehensive initiatives across research, education, workforce development, and external partnerships. Her leadership established the university's M.S. in AI and the core “AI for All” course. She also chairs the AI-in-Government Council, uniting academia, industry, and public agencies. As a leading voice on institutional intelligence, she challenges organizations to critically examine the societal impacts of AI and understand both its possibilities and its risks.

An award-winning Professor of Computer Science, Shehu brings deep expertise in foundational AI to her center-building efforts. She has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and previously directed the Institute for Digital Innovation. Her influence extends nationally through her past service as an NSF Program Director, shaping AI and data science agendas across academia and government. Her pioneering work has earned her numerous accolades, including election as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.

Closing the Day in a Classic Virginia Setting

Guests will transition from the AiPEX Experience Center to an evening program at Whites Ferry Manor, located in Loudoun County near the historic Potomac River crossing known as Whites Ferry. The surrounding area is rich with Virginia history, from colonial-era routes to nearby Civil War sites.

The evening features dinner and entertainment designed to foster conversation in a relaxed, elegant atmosphere. It is intended as a meaningful close to the day, pairing thoughtful discussion with shared perspective in an unhurried setting.
